Kaatza Connections by Rolli Gunderson

Hello and welcome to Kaatza Connections!

Over the years Rolli Gunderson has been an active chronicler of Lake Cowichan's history. Her informative and often amusing tales have graced the pages of both The Lake News  and The Lake Cowichan Gazette newspapers helping long time residents remember their history and helping new residents to a better understanding of the community they have chosen as their home.

With Rolli's support we are very pleased to bring to you some of her stories, freshly updated and with more pictures.  Every month we will post a new article for your reading pleasure.

Enjoy!

Jogindar's Mill

Tucked away in the woods not far from Lake Cowichan, just a mile or so off South Shore Road, was once a small but well known little sawmill called Jogindar’s. . .

The Reeds

The Reed family was once well known and very prominent locally, involved in several community and social affairs . . .

Ken Gillespie

In the centre of Lake Cowichan, in a rather obscure location along the river bank lies tiny Gillespie Park . . .

Robert Meade

Although Robert Meade lived in the Cowichan Lake area no more than 25 years, his name is still mentioned on occasion by locals . . .

The March Farm

March Meadows Golf Course has its roots in the efforts of one of Lake Cowichan's early pioneers, Henry March.  Where the March family's cows once roamed golfers now roam in their golf carts.

The Old Lake Theatre

Lake Cowichan once sported its own movie theatre which was an entertainment focal point for the region.  The films are no longer shown but the building still exists and so do the memories.
