Nov 18, 2008

Guest Speaker: Leslie Drew

Leslie will be speaking about the Stoker & Simpson families that lived at Marble Bay early in the last century. Dr. Richard Stoker and his wife Susan arrived in 1900. They created a small botanical garden and had a reputation as authorities on wildflowers of BC.  George and Suzanne Simpson arrived here in 1914 and were befriended by the Stoker's. They had a shared interest in gardening which resulted in a flourishing nursery business. Of particular interest to them were rhododendrons.

Leslie, a member of the Cowichan Valley Rhododendron Society has written several articles on the plant and has taken a particular interest in the Stoker/Simpson families.
